College Student Anxiety, Depression Levels Show Sharp Rise

Once upon a time University of California students spent four years at school, they were charged little or nothing for their education. They would attend class, participate in activities on campus, hang out with friends, go to parties and spend lots of time studying. Many lived in dorms, or at home with their families and most did not work. If they did, it was part-time and often on campus.

The number of children living below the child-poverty rate has increased 18% between 2000 and 2009 and 44% of California kids are living in poverty, according to a report.


S.B. County homeless population increases
The number of homeless people counted in San Bernardino County increased by 66 percent with families increasingly at risk, according to a recently released survey.

A biannual count, conducted over two days in late January, found 2,876 homeless people compared to 1,736 counted in 2009, according to the results presented to the Board of Supervisors this week.
